I completely and utterly adore this little girl. Do I say that about all of the kids I photograph? Well, I really mean it with this one! I photographed Miss M for her six month portraits and had the best conversation with her as she happily let me snap amazing shot after amazing shot. I'm so happy that her family came back for her one year portrait!
We started out the session with an idea that Mom had for outdoor portraits using a mirror. You would not have known it was spring by the weather that day, so I had a cute little coat ready for her to keep her warm. We still made it kinda quick and headed into the studio for the rest of the session.
As with all one year portraits, we wanted to showcase what milestones she had achieved. I set up a crate for her to hold on to for standing since she wasn't quite doing it on her own. She wasn't too sure about that one, but once Mom and Dad got into the picture, she became really excited to show me what she could do!
This was the first time I got to see M's mischievous side. Kids almost always knock the letters down, but Miss M totally did it on purpose! She got a huge kick out of it, excuse the pun. Picking them back up 12 times was completely worth it to capture that face!
Next came the best part...the cake smash! I will admit that though I love doing Epic Cake Smash sessions, there is something to be said about a more basic, simpler set up like this one. I loved the addition of the balloons that Mom brought and I picked up a wood M that I painted to match the set and then gave to the family after the session.
This close up is one of Mom's favorites. She was looking up at Mom and Dad. You can just feel her joy and love!
The balloons were a big hit with Miss M as well! Once she was done with the cake, she finally noticed they were there. Apparently they looked tasty, too! It took a lot of effort to get the frosting off those balloons so they could take them home!
The last part of the session was a bath. We added an extra half hour so we could fit this in. I love doing the bubble bath after a cake smash. Not only is it super cute, but it's a great way to get clean before going home. Most kids aren't sure what to make of it, even if they usually love bath time. But Miss M had no issues. She was splashing and being silly. Some of my favorite expressions of the day were during this portion of the session.
I loved every second of this session. Miss M is so easy to photograph and easy going, not to mention an adorable subject. It makes me so happy that I was able to capture her at this time in her life and give her family such beautiful memories. I look forward to seeing her again for her next portrait session...I hope it's not a whole year away!
